Known to many simply as "the Poet of Palestine," Fadwa Tuqan died in her hometown of Nablus on Friday, December 12, 2003. She was 86. During her life, she received numerous awards for her poetry. She will be remembered for her undying love for the land and people of Palestine. "Enough for Me" was previously published in Minbar, the journal of the Ibn Rushd Fund for Free Thought.

Enough for Me

Enough for me to die on her earth
be buried in her
to melt and vanish into her soil
then sprout forth as a flower
played with by a child from my country.
Enough for me to remain
in my country's embrace
to be in her close as a handful of dust
a sprig of grass
a flower.
