Anticipation

This November I will vote to have my opinion counted
Much I expect from my one vote this time
I expect to show the world that
Americans do not tolerate
Governments with imperialist designs
I expect to show the elite politicians
That democracy cannot be played with
The protest voices of millions cannot be ignored this time
Mind you, I am not living in fantasy
There are things I know my vote will not change
Health care costs will continue to rise
Welfare will still be the lot of many
I know that next November
Palestinians will continue to suffer
Afghans will still be ruled by war lords
And Iraq, what to say of Iraq?
Still this November I will vote
In anticipation that next time,
Though a minority in my own country,
Next time I will be taken seriously
