12 Dhu'l-Hijjah 1425 - Poem 12
Eid al-Adha, Day 3

Behold, Abraham said, “My lord, show me how thou givest life to the dead. He said “Dost thou not then believe?” He said “Yea, but to satisfy my own heart.” He said, “Take four birds, tie them (cut them in pieces), then put a portion of them on every mountain, then call to them: They will come to thee with speed.” (Quran, The Cow: 260)

Sorrow, tear me
like a quartered bird
Put each piece
on a mountaintop

in the four directions
of pain:
grief, anger, harm, hate

continued-below-300.gif

Who is the one
who can make me whole
as I was before?

Love, resurrect
my small beating heart—

I fly to you, I come
from the four directions,
bird, bird
once more
